Orange Shirt Day

September 29

We ask staff and students to wear their orange shirts to remember and honor Indigenous children who were sent to residential schools.

Why Do We Wear Orange?
The idea comes from a woman named Phyllis Webstad. When she was six years old, she was excited to go to her first day of school. Her grandmother bought her a shiny new orange shirt. But when she arrived at the residential school, the adults took her clothes away, including her special orange shirt, and never gave it back.
